JUNO FAQ

Can I take a trial lesson?

The JUNO Basics, Intermediate and Advanced 6-week courses are progressive so it’s not possible to sign up for a trial lesson. If you want to try self-defense before committing to a full course you can register online for a JUNO workshop or book a Personal Training session by emailing info@rootedresilience.nl.

I’ve registered for a JUNO training, now what?

Great that you’ve registered for a JUNO training, welcome! You will receive a welcome email with more information about the course or workshop about a week before the start date. I look forward to meeting you soon!

What do I need for training?
Great question! Here are my recommendations ahead of your first training:

·       Arrive 10 minutes before the start of training so we can get acquainted, settle into the space, and start on time.

·       Bring a water bottle and towel since we will move and sweat! Remember to drink enough water before and after each class and eat a light meal a few hours before training.

·       It’s best to wear clothing that won’t interfere with movement, and considering sweat and body contact, I recommend a t-shirt (vs. tank/sleeveless top), leggings or shorts, and indoor training shoes that won’t mark up the gymnasium floor (no outdoor shoes allowed – otherwise you will have to train in socks or barefoot).

Am I fit enough?

JUNO courses and workshops are perfect for all fitness levels! I aim to make all trainings accessible at your individual level while finding ways for you to grow and improve along the way. If you have any injuries, disabilities, or take any medications that might affect your training, please email info@rootedresilience.nl before the start of your program.

I have/previously had PTS/PTSD and wonder what my options are?

To empower yourself is one of the best options in a healing process. To give you the best possible training we would like to set up a personal call to discuss your specific situation and if/how best to proceed. Please send an email to info@rootedresilience.nl with a short introduction, your mobile number and availability to schedule a call. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

What should I do if I cannot attend a lesson?

Each JUNO course progresses and builds over 6-weeks, culminating with the exam in week 6, so it’s very important to attend every lesson! However, I understand life can happen, so if something comes up and you’re unable to attend please send an email to info@rootedresilience.nl with as much advanced notice as possible.

How do I schedule a makeup class when I missed a lesson?

If you must miss a lesson during the 6-week course there are a few options to continue your training (see below). To know which option(s) are available / best for your situation, please email info@rootedresilience.nl with as much advanced notice as possible.

  1. Make-up the missed lesson with a JUNO Personal Training (PT) session (subject to trainer availability). The cost for a 1:1 one-hour self-defense PT starts at €75,00. Whenever possible it is best to do this before the next class takes place.

  2. If the same course is being delivered by another Affiliate in tandem with your course, you might be able to make up the missed lesson with the other group if room is available. Note that this would be on a different day and time and at a different location.

  3. If the above options do not work, you can make up what you missed in week 5 when we do a full review of all self-defense techniques and scenarios in preparation for the exam in week 6. Please note that week 5 is an overview of everything learned in the course so we will not have time to deep-dive into specific techniques missed.

I cannot attend the exam in week 6, what are my options?

We strongly encourage all participants to join the regularly scheduled group exam in week 6 of the course. If this is not possible, please send an email to info@rootedresilience.nl with as much advanced notice as possible so we can determine what options are available for completing the course.

Please note that you must complete the course exam before moving on to the next level JUNO course.

I am no longer able to attend the course I registered for. What are my options?

All deposits and payments for JUNO courses and trainings are non-refundable. They may be credited to your JUNO account if email notice is given to info@rootedresilience.nl at least 7 days prior to the event start date due to unforeseen circumstances. Exceptions may be made for certain medical/personal circumstances at Rooted Resilience’s discretion (i.e. long-term injury, doctor or psychologist advisement); however, no refund is possible for any reason after 6 months from the date of purchase.

Are lessons ever cancelled?

Lessons will always take place as scheduled unless there is a force majeure.

The course I want to attend is fully booked. Do you have a wait list?

Yes, send an email to info@rootedresilience.nl with your name, contact information (email and phone number), course or workshop name, and available/preferred dates. Once we receive your wait list request we will provide further details on how the waitlist process works for your particular training.
